Santiago City Council launches campaign to position the city as the capital of biotechnology

On Wednesday, Santiago City Council presented the campaign “Compostela. Capital da Biotecnoloxía” (Compostela. Capital of Biotechnology), which aims to promote the A Sionlla Biopole in order to “retain” talent and “attract” projects and investment. The campaign kicks off with a promotional video, which will be followed by other initiatives, highlighting the opportunities and strengths that the Galician capital has to offer as the capital of biotechnology.

The Councillor for Rights and Social Services, María Rozas, has framed the initiative ‘in the need to continue promoting the economic potential of Santiago, our ability to generate talent and attract investment and innovative projects’.

‘This campaign aims to move away from the clichés about Compostela, reminding people that we are much more than the image that often transcends and insisting on our conviction that we cannot live on tourism alone,’ she said.

The president of the Tambre Business Area, José Fernández Alborés, explained that three companies are currently installed in the facility. ‘We expect new companies to move in after the summer, coming from the Emprendia building at the USC and under an agreement with the University of Santiago (USC),’ he said.

The campaign, through a self-referential strategy and an advertising video, aims to present a new face of Santiago, “Compostela Biotech”. It highlights the opportunities and strengths that the Galician capital has to offer as the capital of biotechnology, thereby attracting and promoting the establishment of SMEs, spin-offs and incubation, acceleration and consolidation projects, as well as research centres in the A Sionlla Biopolo, among others.

AGREEMENT WITH THE TAMBRE BUSINESS AREA

In addition, the City Council will sign an agreement with the Tambre Business Area, in relation to the objective of reindustrialisation and the promotion of the establishment of companies in Santiago.

The agreement will involve a municipal contribution of €50,000 to finance various actions aimed at consolidating and attracting companies to the Biopole, as well as the City Council’s collaboration in providing security services for the business area.
